President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo will send a letter nominating a candidate for TNI commander to the House of Representatives (DPR) next week. Secretary General of the DPR Indra Iskandar said the letter would be delivered by the Minister of State Secretary to the Speaker of the DPR Puan Maharani, who would then hold a leadership and commission meeting to hold a fit and proper test to elect a new TNI commander.

TNI Commander General Andika Perkasa will enter retirement age on Dec. 21. According to the law, the president must send a letter containing the nominations for the commander candidates to the DPR before the incumbent commander retires. The candidates for the TNI commander will come from the three current chiefs of staff. The president will usually only nominate one name to be submitted to the DPR.

Previously, it was reported that the president would send a letter to the DPR yesterday. However, Puan is currently still in Cambodia representing Indonesia attending the 43rd General Assembly of ASEAN Interparliamentary (AIPA). Meanwhile, the DPR will return to recess on December 16.
