Formula E Graft Probe Reeks of Politics
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) keeps investigating an alleged graft related to the hosting of the Formula E race in Jakarta. On Sept 28, the task force assigned to investigate the case held a preliminary hearing led by KPK chairman Firli Bahuri. Firli was accompanied by other KPK deputy chairmen Alexander Marwata, Nurul Ghufron, and Nawawi Pomolango, as well as the deputy for enforcement Karyoto.
The hearing was held after the anti-graft body questioned Jakarta governor Anies Baswedan as a witness on Sept 7. KPK also interrogated Youth and Sports Minister's former secretary Gatot S Dewa Broto on June 16 and Jakarta Legislative Council's (DPRD) speaker Prasetyo Edi Marsudi. However, KPK spokesperson Ali Fikri denied that the investigation was political and that the KPK was trying to derail Anies Baswedan's presidential bid in 2024. "It's not true. This process started long before the nomination," Ali said on Friday.
