Tug of War of Gudang Garam's Airport Project
The Transportation Ministry signed government-to-business cooperation (PPP) with PT Surya Dhoho Investama, a PT Gudang Garam Tbk (GGRM) subsidiary, on the construction of Kediri Airport in East Java. Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said Gudang Garam would spend Rp 6.6 trillion for the airport's construction.
The runway length of the airport will be 3,000-meter long, enough to accommodate aircraft used for hajj or umrah. "Boeing 777 planes can land there. It is easier to go to the Holy Land for hajj and umrah," Budi said on Wednesday. He revealed that Garuda Indonesia and Batik Air were interested in accommodating passengers to and from Kediri Airport. Previously, Gudang Garam director Itata Taswin Siddharta revealed that the project was initially worth Rp 10 trillion.
