Bridgestone to Expand Raw Material Base for Tire Industry in Indonesia

Summary

Bridgestone Corp said it would invest US$26.7 million in 2030 to increase the productivity of natural rubber plantations in Indonesia. Through a statement released on August 10, 2022, Bridgestone's management stated that the expansion of rubber plantations was a strategy to secure a sustainable raw materials supply. "Bridgestone will double its natural rubber harvest volume by 2035," it said in a statement.

The investment will be used to develop trees with stable harvest volumes. The tree was selected based on genome analysis technology and other advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence analysis to diagnose and detect diseases in rubber trees. Bridgestone has two plantations in Indonesia: 17,900 hectares in Sumatra and 6,000 hectares in Kalimantan.
