Indonesian Minister Tjahjo Kumolo Dies at 65
Minister of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform Tjahjo Kumolo died at Abdi Waluyo Hospital on Friday at 11.20 am. The news was confirmed by a senior official from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Juminart Girsang.
Tjahjo was treated intensively two weeks ago due to an infection that spread to his lungs. President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has appointed the Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Mahfud MD as the Ad Interim of Minister of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform to ensure the state's tasks run smoothly.
Tjahjo is one of the PDIP cadres and served as Secretary-General from 2010 to 2014. He resigned from his position as Secretary-General of PDIP when Jokowi elected him as Minister of Home Affairs in the Working Cabinet (2014-2019). In the second period of Jokowi's administration, Tjahjo was again trusted to enter the Indonesia Onward Cabinet as Minister of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform.
