Petronas Carigali Secures Indonesia's North Ketapang Block
Petronas Carigali (PC) Ketapang II Ltd has won the North Ketapang Block, which is located onshore and offshore East Java through the direct bidding scheme in a second batch of the 2021 oil and gas block auction. Adif Zulkifli, Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer of Upstream Petronas, revealed that PC Ketapang II would operate and hold 100 percent participating interest in the block, covering an area of 3,131.8 square kilometers and water depths of up to 100 meters below sea level. "We are very pleased with the results of this second round of auction because the North Ketapang Block is close to the site where we managed to carry out an encouraging discovery last year," he said.
Meanwhile, head of the Upstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Special Task Force (SKK Migas) Dwi Soetjipto argued that Petronas' participation in the auction proved that Indonesia's upstream oil and gas investment could still attract world-class investors. "Petronas is one of the largest oil and gas companies in the world. More investments in Indonesia will hopefully be able to attract other world-class investors to follow Petronas' footsteps," Dwi said.
