Indonesia Ready If Omicron Gets Worse

Tenaga medis vs COVID-19
Summary

The Indonesian government will update the emergency level to high alert if the Omicron transmission gets increasingly virulent. Coordinating Maritime Affairs and Investment Minister Luhut Pandjaitan revealed that the high alert status would be applied when the bed occupancy ratio (BOR) in hospitals and health facilities reached 20-30 percent. Currently, Indonesia's Omicron emergency status is at Level 1 according to World Health Organization (WHO) standards. "We will make sure there will be no local transmission increase," Luhut said on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin assured that the government had already provided 80,000 beds to treat COVID-19 patients and, if needed, it could increase the figure to 190 thousand beds. The government has also prepared 400,000 pills of Molnupiravir and 16,000 ventilators for COVID-19 patients. "We have prepared medicines and new health protocols for treatments in hospitals, based on what we have learned from previous events," he explained.
