President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo decided to provide the COVID-19 vaccine booster shot for free to the entire community. This program will kick off on January 12, 2022. "I emphasize that the people's safety is the main priority," Jokowi said at a press conference on Tuesday, adding that booster shot is vital to boost immunity amidst the outbreak of COVID-19 omicron variant.

In the first stage, booster vaccines are prioritized for health workers, the elderly, and other vulnerable groups. Furthermore, this program targets the general public aged 18 years and over who have received the second shot for more than six months. The booster vaccination takes place in regencies/cities that have fulfilled 70 percent vaccination coverage for the first dose and 60 percent for the second dose. The vaccines used are CoronaVac (Bio Farma/ Sinovac), AstraZeneca, Moderna, Pfizer, and Zifivak.
