Bali, a New Challenger in Southeast Asia's Healthcare Business
The Indonesian government started the construction of the Bali International Hospital or Bali International Hospital. President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo said Bali International Hospital would collaborate with the United States-based Mayo Clinic. "We hope that this will become a Special Economic Zone (SEZ), and people will no longer travel abroad for treatment," he said.
Many residents are undergoing medical treatment outside Indonesia, according to Jokowi, citing that about 2 million Indonesians go for treatment to Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, America, and other places every year. "As a result, Rp 97 trillion worth in foreign exchanges are wasted," Jokowi said. Therefore, he expects that this trend can be reversed by building an international standard hospital in Indonesia.
