Pertamina Aims Big to Reduce Carbon Emission
Indonesia's national energy company PT Pertamina will take an important role in reducing carbon emissions in the energy sector. The state-owned oil and gas holding seeks to cut 81.4 million tons of carbon emissions by 2060. Iman Rachman, Pertamina's Director of Strategy, Portfolio and Business Development, said the company had contributed to a 27.08 percent of total emissions reduction last year. Pertamina is also preparing an energy transition through the 2020–2024 Long Term Plan (RJPP) to reduce CO2 by 29 percent in 2030.
Iman said Pertamina is preparing several strategies to reduce emissions. For example, energy efficiency and fuel gasification will be implemented in all sub holdings and subsidiaries. "Pertamina, as a national energy company and one of the largest state-owned enterprises, plays an important role in leading the energy transition and emission reductions in the energy sector to ensure sustainability," he said on Tuesday.
