The Indonesian government will simultaneously hold a COVID-19 booster vaccination in January 2022. Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said the government is preparing a regulation for the third vaccine dose with two schemes: free and paid. Recipients of free vaccines are contributions beneficiaries from the Healthcare Social Security Administering Body (BPJS Kesehatan). "This will be regulated in a Health Minister Regulation," Airlangga said on Monday.

The COVID-19 booster vaccination has gone through clinical trials in several countries. Several countries recommend a third dose against new variants of COVID-19, including Omicron or B.1.1.529. The government will also speed up booster vaccinations for vulnerable groups to anticipate the emergence of the new variant.
