Light Rail Transit Project Cost Swells
The Indonesian government will operate the Jakarta-Bogor-Depok-Bekasi Light Rail Transit (LRT Jabodebek) after PT Industri Kereta Api (INKA) completes the final train set. The state-owned train maker sent the last or 31st light rail trainset from Madiun to Jakarta on Thursday last week.
The final train set delivery marks the completion of the production process and static testing at the INKA factory carried out since October 2019. Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said the government will operate the driverless trainset on the Jabodebek LRT line in the first quarter of 2022.
LRT Jabodebek's operation has been delayed by two years from the initial target in July 2019 to the first half of 2022. The delay was on the back of land acquisition in addition to possible cost overruns estimated at Rp 2.7 trillion, bringing the total project value to Rp 30.3 trillion, SOE Ministry explained. The Development Finance Supervisory Agency (BPKP) is auditing the project, and the cost overrun will likely be more significant than previously anticipated.
