Summary

The Defense Minister, Prabowo Subianto, agreed to purchase six units of T-50 Golden Eagle fighter jets from Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) worth US$240 million, as reported by Yonhap on July 20, 2021. "Based on the agreement, KAI will supply six T-50 jets to the Indonesian Air Force from December 16, 2021, to October 30, 2024," KAI revealed in a statement.

KAI has previously sold about 16 T-50 Golden Eagle fighter jets worth US$400 million to several countries such as Iraq, Thailand, Turkey, Peru, and the Philippines. The aircraft, designed for combat training, has been produced since 1999. The Indonesian Air Force’s spokesperson, First Marshal Indan Gilang, said that these new units would expand the existing fleet. The 15th Squadron of 3rd Air Wing at the Iswahjudi Air Base, East Java, has been operating several units of T-50 Golden Eagle. "We will add similar aircraft, operated by the 15th Squadron," Gilang said on Wednesday (7/21).
