Private Vaccinations: A Battle between Bio Farma and Private Sector?
The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) plans to start private vaccinations -touted as the 'GotongRoyong' vaccination- in May 2021. The chairperson of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), Rosan Roeslani, revealed that it would start in the third week of May 2021. "It will use vaccines made by Sinopharm and Sputnik V," he elaborated. Kadin and participating companies will carry out the vaccination program, while PT Bio Farma (Persero) will be the vaccine importer.
Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s data showed that as of April 2021, about 17,386 companies had registered in the private vaccination program. The number of recipients in this program will expectedly reach 87 thousand people, consisting of employees of participating companies and their families. Rosan assured that the company, not the workers, would pay for it. It means that workers will still get vaccine shots for free, just like the government’s vaccination program.
