Alleged Corruption Behind Incentive Cuts for Health Workers

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) received reports saying several hospitals had cut incentives for COVID-19 health workers by 50-70 percent. The KPK acting spokesperson, Ipi Maryati, confirmed that the incentive, supposedly going to health workers, was directly deducted by the hospital management and allocated to health workers and other parties unrelated to COVID-19 treatments.

To ensure health workers earn their rights without any deduction, Ipi continued, the KPK asked the Health Ministry’s Inspectorate and regional health agencies to oversee the incentive disbursement. Incentives and compensation for health workers are the government’s appreciation to those dealing with COVID-19. "This is the health workers’ right for being at the forefront of COVID-19 response," she said.
