Petronas Discovers 158 Million MMBO Oil Reserves in North Madura II

Summary

Petronas Carigali North Madura II Ltd discovered oil reserves after drilling the Hidayah-1 exploration well. The exploration well drilling in the North Madura II Block started on January 7, 2021, with 2,739 meters depth. Deputy for Planning for the Upstream Oil and Gas Business Regulatory Task Force (SKK Migas) Jaffee Arizona Suardin said Petronas exploration activity is targeted to reach the Ngimbang Carbonate Formation, with an in-place resource of 158 million barrels of oil (MMBO).

After 57 days of drilling, SKK Migas and Petronas conducted an interval drill steam test (DST) to determine the flow rate and reservoir data in the Ngimbang Formation and found hydrocarbons in oil form with an initial flow rate of 2,100 barrels of oil per day (BOPD). "Currently, we are still doing the final analysis to determine the resources. However, this is a very encouraging finding after mostly we found gas," said Jaffee in a written statement, Tuesday (2/23).
