Survey Shows People Are Dissatisfied: Should It Worry Jokowi?

public support
Summary

The latest survey conducted by Indikator Politik Indonesia showed that the public satisfaction with President Joko Widodo only reached 62.9 percent. The executive director of the pollster, Burhanuddin Muhtadi, revealed that it was the lowest since 2016. He explained that over the past year, the number had fallen by more than five percent. "It is the lowest point since June 2016," he confirmed on Monday (2/2).

The survey also unveiled that public satisfaction with the quality of democracy in the country was at 53 percent, lower than that of September 2020 at 68.3 percent. Burhanuddin suggested that Jokowi had to be careful with it since public satisfaction could keep going downhill if he and his staff did nothing. "If the president does not mitigate this trend, it will be alarming because some of his loyal supporters have shifted their views," he continued. Burhanuddin also mentioned that the public satisfaction with the quality of democracy was tightly related to political figures' performance in the government.
