Iran Demands Indonesian Clarification over Seized Tanker
Iran demands more explanation from the Indonesian government over the seizure of its tanker that was accused of illegally transferring oil. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Saeed Khatibzadeh said that Iran received contradictory details over the capture of the MT Horse tanker on Sunday (1/24) and had asked for clarification from Jakarta.
"But this is a technical issue, and it happens in the shipping field," he explained during a press conference in Tehran, Monday, as quoted by Aljazeera. Khatibzadeh said the Ports and Maritime Organization of Iran and the country's embassy in Indonesia are following up on the issue, and further information will be announced when they become clear.
Meanwhile, the Iranian Oil Minister, Bijan Zanganeh, said the tanker captured by Indonesian authorities was carrying oil cargo. "The issue is being followed up by Iran," said Zanganeh as quoted by Reuters.
