Government to Pour Rp 450 Billion for Three Geothermal Projects
The Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Ministry has prepared Rp 450 billion worth of geothermal exploration budget this year. The ministry’s director of geothermal energy, Ida Nuryatin Finahari, said that the money would fund drilling projects in three geothermal working areas (WKP), capable of generating up to 112 megawatts (MW) and a 60 MW development plan. "They are WKP Cisolok Cisukarame in West Java, WKP Bituang in South Sulawesi, and WKP Nage in East Nusa Tenggara," she revealed.
According to the plan, the ministry will start the exploration by drilling two small diameter wells for each working area. Exploration drilling is part of the government strategy to develop geothermal potential quickly. The program allows the government to improve the quality of working area data before offering them to interested business entities through an auction.
