Planning a Rights Issue, BRI to Acquire Pegadaian and PNM?
PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia Tbk (BBRI) is reportedly seeking US$1 billion or Rp 13.87 trillion in fresh funds through a rights issue. It has appointed an investment advisor to hold the rights issue, one source told Bloomberg.
According to the source, BRI will use the proceeds to strengthen capital and prepare for acquisitions. "The news about the rights issue is not true," says BRI Corporate Secretary Aestika Oryza Gunarto on Thursday (1/7).
The news of the planned rights issue came after the merger of state-owned Islamic banks in October 2020. The merger of PT BRI Syariah Tbk, PT Bank Syariah Mandiri, and PT BNI Syariah gave birth to the largest Islamic bank in Indonesia.
