How Strong Is KPK with Its New Authority?
President Joko Widodo issued Presidential Decree (Perpres) No. 102/2020 on the Implementation of Supervision of Corruption Eradication. This regulation gives new authority to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to supervise and take over corruption cases handled by the police and the Attorney General's Office.
In Article 2 Paragraph 1 of the Perpres signed by Jokowi on October 20, it is stated that the KPK can supervise agencies that carry out corruption eradication. Anti-corruption activists also hope that this new rule will strengthen KPK, after the issuance of a revised law that tends to weaken the institution. Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) researcher, Kurnia Ramadhana, encouraged the KPK to take over corruption cases that are stalled at the Attorney General's Office and the police. "The KPK must take the initiative to take over the handling of those cases," he said.
