Speeding Up the Development of Halal Industrial Estates
The government is speeding up the establishment of halal industrial areas (KIH). Vice President Ma'ruf Amin revealed that around six industrial zones are currently applying for permits as KIH, such as Modern Cikande Industrial Estate in Serang, Banten; SAFE n LOCK Halal Industrial Park in Sidoarjo Regency, East Java; Bintan Inti Industrial Estate, Riau Islands; Batamindo Industrial Estate, Batam; The Jakarta Pulogadung Industrial Estate; and Surya Borneo Industrial Estate in Central Kalimantan.
Ma'ruf said that the development of KIH would be one of the strategies to make Indonesia the largest producer of halal products in the world. Meanwhile, the Coordinating Economic Minister Airlangga Hartarto said KIH could develop four main sectors: food and beverages, fashion, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics. However, it is possible to develop other business sectors in the estates as well.
