Jabung Block Faces Uncertain Future After Contract Expires in 2023

Summary

The future of the Jabung Block, whose contract will expire in 2023, is still unclear. PT Pertamina and Petrochina International Jabung Ltd are still competing for the right to manage the oil and gas working area in Jambi. Acting Head of the Program and Communication Division of the Upstream Oil and Gas Special Regulatory Task Force (SKK Migas), Susana Kurniasih, said the two companies had sent proposals of interest in managing the Jabung Block. However, the decision is still being discussed at the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry (ESDM). "There has not been any change, there is no final word yet, there is no development," she told Katadata.co.id, Monday (10/26).

Clearly, there will be a change in the composition of participating right holders in the Jabung Block. The current operator, Petrochina, and its partner, Petronas Carigali, will join hands with other companies. "This issue is included in the evaluation discussion. But I don’t know the details, how many percent and who will be the new partners, "said Susana. Previously, Head of SKK Migas Dwi Soetjipto targeted, the decision on the Jabung Block operator would be announced by the end of this year.
