Jokowi's Chance to Lead the Bull Party
Chairperson of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) Megawati Sukarnoputri expressed a surprising signal. She set out to carry out a succession in the party top leadership in 2024, coinciding with the year of the General Election and Presidential Election. "We will carry out regeneration, which will be total, by 2024," she said while giving a speech at the inauguration ceremony of the 20 Regional Offices of the PDI-P Regional Leadership Council (DPD) and the Branch Leadership Council (DPC) conducted online, on Wednesday (7/22).
It is the first time Megawati talked about the succession of her party in public since being re-elected as Chair of the PDI-P, at the 5th Party Congress in Denpasar, Bali, in August 2019. Mega did not explain in detail the purpose of total regeneration that she conveyed. But she had alluded to the existence of political parties, which must maintain their presence for a long time. She cited the United States, which has two political parties, namely the Republic and the Democrats, that are very old but still exist today because they have successfully carried out regeneration.
