Tobacco Giants Postpone Payments on Trillions of Rupiah Excise Taxes

Summary

Several giant cigarette producers reap the benefits of government incentives through the deferrals of tobacco excise duties (CHT). The Finance Ministry’s Directorate General of Customs and Excise’s (DJBC) data as of May 11, 2020, showed that about 82 companies had received the clearances to postpone the excise tax payments for 90 days or three months, totaling up to Rp12.79 trillion.

Based on the groups, cigarette manufacturers receiving the most significant facilities were large or Class I factories at Rp 10.33 trillion, followed by Class II and Class III factories at Rp 2.45 trillion and Rp 15 billion, respectively.
