Covid-19 Increases LPG Consumption but not Fuel Oil
PT Pertamina unveiled that the number of Indonesia’s daily consumption was down eight percent during the Covid-19 pandemic in the country. Pertamina’s vice president of corporate communication, Fajriyah Usman, explained that since the government encouraged people to start staying at home since March 16, 2020, the average fuel oil consumption decreased. It fell from 134.87 thousand kiloliters to 123.74 thousand kiloliters per day.
In contrast, the overall daily consumption of household LPG in the country increased: the subsidized LPG consumption was up 0.7 percent from usual from 21.93 thousand metric tons to 22.10 thousand metric tons. At the same time, the use of non-subsidized ones was up 5.4 percent from 2.05 thousand metric tons to 2.16 metric tons. Nevertheless, Pertamina ensured that the fuel oil and LPG supplies are enough for the long term. The national stock of fuel oil is enough for 23 days, and the LPG is sufficient for at least 17 days. Pertamina will keep adding the stock according to the consumption level.
