Will Chevron Able to Drill 100 Wells a Year in Rokan Block?

Summary

PT Chevron Pacific Indonesia finally agreed to invest in the Rokan Block this year. The Upstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Special Task Force (SKK Migas) also targets the United States-based energy company to drill at least 100 wells. Deputy Head of SKK Migas Fataryani Abdurrahman said Chevron could start drilling as soon as November 2020 until the transfer of the management process in 2021. "At least 100 infill wells have been drilled by the time of handover," he told Katadata.co.id, Friday (3/20).

There would be five to ten rigs to operate for the drilling. Chevron would adequately provide the investment, in which the government will return the funds according to the cost recovery contract scheme. However, Fatar refused to provide the investment detail since SKK Migas and Chevron are still counting. The plan would also be included in the revised work plan and budget for 2020. After the handover, PT Pertamina will drill the Rokan Block starting in August 2021.
