Govt Ready to Take Drastic Measure after Massive Covid-19 Cases Jump
As of Wednesday (3/18), the Covid-19 tally in Indonesia jumped to 227 cases, with 55 new positive cases and 19 deaths. As a result, the Indonesian COVID-19 death rate is at 8.4 percent or the highest in the world.
The government is considering applying a new method in detecting the virus through rapid Covid-19 tests using blood samples. At the moment, the corona test employed in Indonesia is the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method or genome sequencing from the samples in a person’s throat, esophagus, or nose. The government, through PT Rajawali Nusantara Indonesia (RNI), has ordered about 500,000 of the testing kits from China. RNI is currently waiting for the Health Minister’s clearance to import them. Those pieces of equipment are capable of showing the test results from 15 minutes to three hours.
