Corona Stimulus Widens the Deficit, Is the State Budget Still Safe?

Summary

This year's state budget deficit has the potential to increase 0.8 percent to 2.5 percent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Finance Minister Sri Mulyani said the state budget deficit would widen as the government poured stimulus to ward off the impact of the coronavirus (Covid-19).

"In terms of fiscal and non-fiscal stimulus that has been given, the overall state budget policy will create a deficit of around 2.5 percent or Rp 125 trillion in additional deficits," Sri Mulyani said during a press conference at the Ministry of Economic Affairs Office last week.
