Underwhelming Telecommunication Industry Forces Indosat’s Layoffs

Summary

PT Indosat Tbk or Indosat Ooredo has laid off 677 employees this year. Indosat Ooredo President Director Ahmad Al-Neama explained that the employment termination was necessary to ease the load of the company and increase its maneuverability in the market.

Ahmad Al-Neama revealed that the company would undergo three vital changes by strengthening regional teams, handing over the network management to the third party and the Managed Service provider, and trimming down the corporate structure and personnel in some business functions. Previously, similar to Indosat, XL Axiata also laid off about 200-300 employees in 2017-2018. The company claimed that the contract terminations were necessary to accelerate the digital transition and allows the company to compete in the national communication market with relative ease.
