Industrial Electricity Tariff May Enjoy a 30-Percent Discount

The government plans to discount electricity tariffs for industrial sector customers, which will apply from 10 PM until 6 AM. PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) estimates the electricity tariff discount to reach 20 to 30 percent, the company's Strategic Procurement Director I Sripeni Inten Cahyani told Kontan.

The state-owned electricity provider believes that the discount will have a significant positive impact on the domestic industry, thus improving competitiveness. The reason is that Indonesia's industrial electricity tariffs can compete with tariffs in other countries such as Vietnam and Malaysia. Industrial sector customers reached 107,006 customers as of January 2020, according to PLN estimates.
