Government to Legalize Online Motorcycle Taxi

The House of Representatives’ Transportation Commission and the Transportation Ministry accelerated the discussion over the planned revision of Law No. 22/2009 concerning Traffic and Road Transportation. The clause to be included is permission for motorbikes to operate as public transportation. With the change, the government will legalize motorcycle transportation, or known as ojek, both conventional and online-based transport.

The House also included a revision of the Traffic Act in the list of 50 bills discussed in the 2020 National Legislation Program (Prolegnas), which was passed on Wednesday, January 22, 2020. The House's Transportation Commission Chairman, Lasarus, believes that the talks over this regulation could be completed quickly since it only updated articles about motorcycle transportation.
