Opposition’s Failed Dig at Jiwasraya Case
The House of Representatives (DPR) finally decided to create a working committee to investigate the alleged corruption in PT Asuransi Jiwasraya. At the same time, the committee, called Financial Services Industry Monitoring Special Committee, will also look into similar cases in the financial industry, one of them happened to PT Asuransi Sosial Angkatan Bersenjata Republik Indonesia or Asabri.
The chairman of Commission XI, dealing with financial affairs, Dito Ganinduto, said that all of the fractions in the commission agreed on the creation of the committee. Previously, the DPR got split into two: the ones supporting the formation of the working committee, and the ones demanding the extraordinary committee (Pansus). The idea of Pansus comes from the Prosperous Justice Party and Democratic Party, the “oppositional” fractions. Dito argued that the reason his commission decided to form a working committee was that the financial industry scandal did not only happen to Jiwasraya. Similar cases also hit Asuransi Jiwa Bersama Bumiputera 1912, PT Taspen, and Bank Muamalat, and all of them need immediate and thorough solutions.
