PDI-P’s Ordeal in Hasto’s Scandal
The fate of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle’s (PDI-P) secretary-general, Hasto Kristiyanto, now hangs by a thread. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is ready to comb his offices and houses, looking for any proof of his participation in the bribery attempt involving one of the General Elections Commission’s commissioners, Wahyu Setiawan.
The acting KPK’s spokesperson, Ali Fikri, revealed that the investigators had received a clearance from the Supervisory Boards to probe PDI-P’s Central Executive Board office. They would also investigate several locations, including Hasto’s office. However, the anti-graft body has not yet caught the primary suspect of the case, Harun Masiku, even though his status is now a fugitive.
