Controlling Food Price Surges in 15 Provinces

Summary

The Trade Ministry revealed that, near the end of the year, the food prices would potentially increase in 15 provinces. Many people in North Sumatra, Banten, Jakarta, West Jawa, Central Jawa, Yogyakarta, East Jawa, Bali, East Nusa Tenggara, Central Kalimantan, West Kalimantan, North Sulawesi, Maluku, Papua, and West Papua will celebrate Christmas and New Year’s Eve during that period.

The food price surges are the result of the increase of demands around Christmas. Therefore, the Trade Ministry plans to monitor the market penetration, if necessary, in 121 markets across the provinces from December 16 until December 20, 2019. The team from the ministry must hold a regional coordination meeting in each region first before executing the plan. The Trade Minister, Agus Suparmanto, on Wednesday (11/13), said that the goal of the market penetration was to monitor the supply of food materials to the market and ensure it to meet the demands.
