JD.com to Cease Operations in Indonesia and Thailand

e-commerce JD.ID
Summary

JD.com reportedly plans to cease its Indonesia and Thailand operations. South China Morning Post reported that the e-commerce giant from China is looking for potential investors to purchase its stake in JD.id or JD.com's operational entity in Indonesia. JD.id, established in 2015, is a joint venture between JD.com and a company from Singapore, Provident Capital Partners. Meanwhile, JD.com's operational entity in Thailand, JD Central Thailand, was founded with the retail company Central Group.

According to a South China Morning Post source, JD.com aims to cut its operational losses in Indonesia and Thailand. At the same time, JD.com will strengthen its operation in China. JD seems to have been struggling in the Indonesian and Thai markets for the last few years. However, until the news was published on Nov 30, the JD.com management, Provident Capital and Central Group had not yet provided any response.
